When we start learning a new language, we often think about vocabulary, grammar, or pronunciation. But there’s something even more powerful that can guide your learning: your personality as a speaker.

Everyone has a natural communication style. Understanding your unique style can help you feel more confident, motivated, and even excited to speak English.
When you study with me, the first thing we do is discover your speaking personality – it’s your secret power.
There are four main types I work with: The Thinker, The Adventurer, The Leader, and The Connector. Each one has different strengths, goals, and preferred ways of practising English. When you discover yours, learning feels easier and more you.
Here’s a quick overview of each one – see which one sounds like you! Plus, I’ve included one simple activity or journalling idea for each to help you start practising today.
💭 The Thinker
You love understanding how things work. You feel more comfortable speaking when you’ve had time to organise your thoughts first. You might enjoy reading, writing, or watching videos that explain ideas in detail. Thinkers often feel unsure about “sounding right” when they speak – but once you’re ready, your words are thoughtful and clear.
Strengths: Structured, curious, detail-oriented Challenges: Overthinking, fear of making mistakes in real time
Goal: Speak with clarity and confidence, even when you don’t have a script
Journalling prompt – “Write about something you’ve learned recently in English. Why did it interest you?”Use this as a quiet moment to explore your ideas. No pressure – just think on paper. You can later use this journal as speaking practice with me.
🧭 The Adventurer
You love action, energy, and experiences. You learn by doing. You don’t mind making mistakes – you’re more focused on expressing yourself and keeping the conversation going. You might enjoy travelling, trying new things, or watching TV shows and repeating phrases out loud. For you, language is a tool for exploring the world.
Strengths: Bold, enthusiastic, expressive Challenges: Impatient with grammar or repetition
Goal: Use English naturally and spontaneously in everyday situations
Mini-challenge – “Spend one day talking to yourself in English.”Describe what you’re doing as if you were vlogging your day: “Now I’m making coffee. It smells amazing. I need to leave in 10 minutes...” Keep it playful – it’s not about perfection, but expression.
🔥 The Leader
You are motivated by goals, results, and growth. You want your English to work for you – in your job, studies, or future plans. You’re focused and determined, and you like to see progress. You enjoy learning with structure, targets, and feedback. You may sometimes feel frustrated if progress feels slow, but you’re capable of amazing breakthroughs when you’re aligned with your “why”.
Strengths: Focused, ambitious, determined Challenges: Perfectionism, frustration with mistakes
Goal: Speak English with clarity, professionalism, and power
Journalling prompt – “What’s your why for learning English? What would change in your life if you spoke fluently?”This question brings you back to your purpose. You can read your answer every time you feel stuck or unmotivated – it's your personal vision board in words.
🤝 The Connector
You love stories, people, and emotions. You learn best through connection – talking with others, sharing experiences, or listening to conversations. You care deeply about expressing yourself and understanding others, not just with the right words but with the right feeling. You’re probably a great listener and storyteller in your native language too.
Strengths: Empathetic, expressive, intuitive Challenges: Fear of being misunderstood or judged Goal: Speak English in a way that feels natural, emotionally true, and connected
Journalling prompt – “Write a short message to someone you care about. What do you want to say to them in English?”This is a gentle, heart-based way to practise real-life English. You don’t have to send it – just notice how your words reflect your emotions.
